Antica ed assai nobile famiglia siciliana, detta Spataro o Spadaro presente in Caltagirone sin dal XVI secolo, la quale ha avuto dimora anche in Scicli, Mineo e Catania. Tal famiglia, inoltre, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che resero illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi e nel servizio militare. Fra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, contasi: Giovanni Antonio, capitano di giustizia in Caltagirone, nel 1549-50; Giacinto, che, con privilegio dato il 15 febbraio 1736, ottenne il titolo di barone e tenne la carica di capitano di giustizia in Corleone, nell'anno 1745/6; Giacomo, che, nel 1693, fu giudice di Reggio Calabria; Placido, il quale, nel 1743, venne eletto dal Senato deputato per la salute pubblica durante la peste in Messina nello stesso anno; Benedetto, proconservatore in Scicli; Giuseppe senatore nel 1804, Giovanni nel 1806, Michele nel 1820 e Placido nel

Di rosso, a due spade d'argento, guernite d'oro, passate in croce di S. Andrea, ed accompagnate in capo da un giglio coronato dello stesso.

Reber, 1912) custodito presso la biblioteca centrale della regione Sicilia; "Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti" vol.II, compilato dal Comm. G.B. di Crollalanza, edito presso la direzione del giornale araldico, Pisa 1888. Note: Un Geronimo Spadaro nel 1693 era giudice di Reggio-Calabria. Un Placido venne eletto dal Senato deputato alle cose di salute pubblica nella peste che afflisse Messina nel 1743. Furono senatori Giuseppe nel 1804, Giovanni nel 1806, Michele nel 1820 c Placido nel 1823.
