Antica ed illustre famiglia del Regno delle Due Sicilie, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia, con rilevanti rami in Veneto ed in Friuli. Conosciuta come Spatola o Spadola, questa prosapia ha visto le prime luci proprio nella città di Spadola scritta anche Spatula o Spatola, in Calabria, da donde poi un cospicuo ramo si è portato in Sicilia, anteriormente al secolo decimosettimo, stanziando primieramente nel ragusano e diramando poi anche in altre province, con maggior insediamenti nel trapanese e nel catanese. Tra i primi personaggi in Calabria di cui si ha memoria vi è il domenicano Fra Pietro (da) Spatola, fiorito nel XVI secolo in Calabria, uomo assai chiaro per pietas e carità. In tempi meno remoti non si dimentichino: D. Carlo, presidente della camera notarile di Catanzaro (1868), ed il sacerdote D. Pasquale, canonico decano nella cattedrale di Catanzaro, creato cavaliere
