La famiglia è originaria da Cimalmotto di Campo Val Maggia (Cantone Ticino), dove alla fine del 1500 appariva tra le famiglie più antiche e nobili. Essa apparteneva all'Arte della Seta ed ebbe molti dei suoi membri negli uffici e nelle cariche maggiori (Caneparo, Giurato, Console). Nel secolo XVII ricordiamo un Gaspare I, nato circa il 1593; suo figlio Guglielmo I, nato il 3 aprile 1640; e il figlio di questo ultimo Gaspare II, nato il 22 novembre 1668. Questi sposò il 29 agosto 1703 Jacopina Padrazzini, anche essa di antica e nobile famiglia di Campo Val Maggia, e fu padre di Guglielmo II, nato il 17 febbraio 1713. Poco prima della metà del secolo XVIII la famiglia, che già con Guglielmo I e Gaspare II fino dal 1675 viveva, acquistava beni ed esercitava anche commerci tanto a Campo Val Maggia, quanto a Dosolo, nel Mantovano, esce definitivamente dal paese d'origine

Troncato: nel primo d'oro all'elefante di nero, armato d'argento, passante sulla troncatura e sostenente una torre di rosso, murata e aperta di nero, merlata di 8 pezzi alla ghibellina, sormontata da tre stelle di 6 raggi di rosso, male ordinate; nel secondo d'azzurro a tre arieti d'oro, salienti, ordinati in fascia. Questa arma fu cominciata ad usare dalla famiglia verso il 1700 a Reggio Emilia e fu riconosciuta con Decreto Ministeriale 10 gennaio 1899. Cimiero: Il leone nascente d'argento.
