Famiglia antica nel primo Ordine civico della città di Montecorvino Rovella e chiara per altre nobiliari illustrazioni, avendo provata la sua discendenza da Vito, primo stipite nell'anno 1504. Nel Fascicolo Angioino 66 del R. Archivio di Stato di Napoli si trova notizia di un Giacomo di Cava che nel 1362 fu ostiario dell'Imperatore di Costantinopoli figlio di Carlo II; e nel fascicolo 79 della stessa scrittura si rinviene Tommaso, Segretario della Regina Giovanna I nel 1359. Nel registro poi 1404 f. 34 si trova Matteo Tesoriere in terra d'Otranto, per il re Ladislao. Il Bertramo "Descrizione del Regno di Napoli 1640 fol 187", scrive: "Decio Capitano degli Archibugeri nella guerra di Lombardia col Duca di Savoia nel 1620; Vincenzo e Giulio suoi figliuoli, emulando la fama paterna giunsero alle medesime cariche.
