Famiglia originaria di Serrapetrona in quel di Macerata . Ne fu capostipite un Vincenzo, figlio di Sebastiano, notaio (nato il 20 sett. 1718), che ebbe la cittadinanza di Camerino il 13 maggio 1753. Gio. Battista fu dottore in giurisprudenza. Fu scelto a rappresentare Camerino alla Consulta di Stato costituita da Pio IX nel 1847. Antonio fu buon pittore. Questi ed altri della famiglia ricoprirono le prime cariche pubbliche a Camerino. Ma chi illustrò più di tutti la famiglia fu Giuseppe (nato a Camerino il 18 agosto 1767 e decaduto in Assisi il 21 luglio 1843). Si fece barnabita e prese il nome di "Carlo". Fu quindi fatto vescovo di Assisi. Gregorio XVI, con lettera del 20 luglio 1841, lo annoverò tra i suoi prelati domestici e vescovi assistenti al Solio, concedendogli anche la nobiltà personale.
