Originaria della Biscaglia, trapiantata e stabilita nella città di Matera nei primi anni del XVII secolo allorquando era Arciv. di Matera e di Acerenza Monsignor Giovanni Spillatura dell'Ordine de' Predicatori. Le famiglia che anticamenti de' seggi di questa antica città abitava, ci dice il Gattini nella sua opera "Note storiche sulla città di Matera", stampato in napoli dal Perrotti nel 1882 al foglio 8°, fosse originaria di Matera. Questa famiglia non essendo stata di molto grido anticamente per vari accidenti di fortuna, ad ogni modo si legge esser antica e quasi a nostri giorni ha goduto il grado senatorio avendo anche avuto uomini riguardevoli.
