Stolte, aus Wegeleben in der Provinz Sachsen stamment; dort lebte der Stammvater Lippold S. um 1675. Die Familie ist größtenteils noch am Harze ansässig; zu ihr gehört der General-Superintendent der Provinz Sachsen, Max S., geb. 26 April 1863 (Mitgeteilt von Hern Brandmeister Scheele in Charlottenburg). Reynholt Stolte 1322 Greifswald Ratsherr. Johann 1333 Lübeck Papiermacher. Manze 1506 Söflingen Dient am Hof. Übername aus dem mittelniederdeutschen stolt gleich (ursprünglich) "herrlich, stattlich, ansehnlich", früh natürlich auch schon gleich übermütig, hochmütig.
