Famiglia indigena di Verona potente ed antica, prima detta Stagnati. Bettino Stagnati nel 1277 ebbe parte nella congiura contro Mastino della Scala. Bartolomeo Stagnati nel 1279 era uno dei nobili di Verona. Nel 1312 si trova memoria di un Nicolò del fu Belenzone, e di Iacopo del fu Bartolomeo, al quale nel 1339 il Comune di Verona restituì un prestito fattogli. Nel 1404 viveva un altro Nicolò sindaco della città e deputato nel 1405 all'acquisto dei grani. Un altro Iacopo fu nel 1445 giudice di Collegio, come altresì Luigi nel 1616. Nel 1405 questa casa entrò nel nobile Consiglio municipale e dopo il 1773 cessò d'appartenervi. S'estinse circa il 1840.
