Familia antigua e ilustre, que tiene su origen en Serbia, donde, desde la antigüedad, se distinguió por los múltiples servicios prestados al imperio, contra el invasor turco. Ya durante el feliz reinado de Stephen IX Dusan (1331-1355), muchos Stankovic se ilustraron en las Cartas y las Artes, contribuyendo, no poco, al desarrollo cultural de su tierra natal y, especialmente, en el campo de la jurisprudencia, un Damjan y un Klovis Stankovic, ambos doctores en derecho, viviendo en 1345, en Belgrado.
