Famille grecque très ancienne et illustre. Il apparaît en Italie en 1823, avec un Konstantinos, capitaine de navires de commerce, qui débarque à Ancône pour échapper à la répression turque. Dans les documents d'archives il y a peu d'informations sur cette maison, les noms des Stavropoulos sont principalement mentionnés dans les contrats de vente de terrains et de maisons depuis le XIXe siècle, d'où il ressort qu'ils étaient de statut noble. Le Stavropoulos, originaire de l'île d'Imbros, s'est répandu au fil des siècles dans diverses villes de Grèce et dans des pays du monde entier. Divers noyaux importants de cette lignée se sont installés en Amérique du Nord, en Argentine, en Europe et en Australie. Cette famille compte des personnages illustres et de hautes vertus, parmi lesquelles nous nous souvenons d'Andreas, membre patriote de la Filiki Etairia; Adonis, patriote qui était avec les Kleftes de Theodoros Kolokotronis depuis 1821 ;
