Famiglia siciliana, e propriamente de Troina, del sec. XVII, ed insignita del titolo di marchese di Bonfornello del quale l'ultimo investito fu Silvestro il 26 febbraio 1782. La famiglia è iscritta genericamente nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano del 1922 col titolo di marchese di Bonfornello (mpr.), in persona dell 'ultimo investito Silvestro, 26 de fevereiro de 1782. A presença do lema na bibliografia documentada da família ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del lema risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in ocasionae dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi . Il lema era un pensiero espresso in poche parole facente allusione a un sentimento palese o nascosto, a una qualità, a un ricordo storico, per stimolo al coraggio o onore. Era scelta
