Walther 1280 Göllsdorf Bauer Anshelmus 1287 Speyer Rotschmied Herkunftsname zu Steg gleich kleine Brücke für den Fußverkehr, zu Steg gleich Fußpfad, enge Gasse, schmaler Durchgang, zu mittelniederdeutsch stege gleich Verschlag, Schweinelag oder Schalpferch. Auch ist aus dem häufigen Ortsname Ste(e)g, Ste(e)gen. Im einzelnen Fall ist stets der Wurzelboden des Namens zu prüfen. Sehr häufig findet Zusammenstoß mit Steig und Stieg statt. Die oberdeutschen Vorkommen mehr zu "Staige", die niederdeutsch zu "enge Gasse", teilweise gewiß auch zu "Verschlag". Stegemannus Seit dem ausgehenden XIII Jahrhundert, ab Karl IV. (1346-1378), haben die Kaiser Wappen verliehen, ohne die Begünstigten in den Adelsstand zu erheben. Im XV Jahrhundert haben sie den Pfalzgrafen mit der Wappenvergabe betraut, der seitdem auch Bürgerfamilien Wappen gewährte.
