Famiglia proveniente da Campi: Alessandro di Vanni nel 1381 fu squittinato per la maggiore e coprì la carica importantissima di notaio della Signoria di Firenze. Il suddetto cognome fu assunto per la prima volta nel 1506 da Leonardo di Bartolo di Biagio, e furon detti "delle Stelle" per distinguerli da altre famiglie dello stesso nome, dalle tre stelle d'oro che furono aggiunte allo stemma originario. Furono ascritti al Patriziato fiorentino (maschi e femmine) con decreto del 5 luglio 1833. Ernesto di Luigi, di Leonardo. Figli: Maria Luisa, Pia, Eleonora, Piero. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
