Famiglia di origine francese e, propriamente, della città di Berre in Provenza, detta, prima, Etendard. Venne nel regno con Guglielmo, maresciallo e grande ammiraglio di Carlo I di Angiò. Godette nobiltà, in Napoli, al Seggio di Montagna; ed in Sicilia, portatavi da Galeazzo, secondo figliuolo di Guglielmo; ma i suoi discendenti furono trucidati nella storica giornata del Vespro. Il ramo di Napoli si estinse in Giannotto che ebbe unica figliuola: Giovanella, contessa di Alife ed altri feudi, che nel 1417 sposò Massimo Boffa, nobile di Pozzuoli e gran cGiannotto, barone di S. Antimo, discese Giovanni, che si stabilì in Cava dei Tirreni. Altro ramo. Originaria di Cava e che si ritiene derivare dall'omonima famiglia genovese. I fratelli Sergio, Roberto, Pertello e Carlo, imprenditori di grandiose opere fra cui parte di Castelnuovo e dell'arsenale di Napoli, furono dagli Aragonesi rimunerati di ricchezze e favori. Pertello e Carlo vennero con privilegio
