Ancienne et noble famille de Sardaigne, originaire de la ville de Bosa, connue sous le nom de Steri ou Steria, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie et d'Europe. Il n'y a pas d'accord sur l'origine de ce patronyme. Une première hypothèse veut qu'il dérive de l'aphérèse du nom latin "Asterius", la seconde qui dérive de l'aphérèse de "Hosterium", c'est-à-dire "palais fortifié". En tout cas, d'après ce qui nous est transmis, cette illustre famille fut décorée de la chevalerie et admise à la noblesse en 1693, en la personne d'Antonio Simone S. et de ses descendants. D'autre part, la famille Steri, au fil des décennies, s'est toujours distinguée pour avoir donné naissance à des personnalités de valeur, qui se sont distinguées dans l'exercice de professions juridiques, dans des carrières militaires et ecclésiastiques.
