Antica ed illustre famiglia, di cui il primo che si annovera è un Marcantonio, della Val d'Enza. Viveva nel 1650 ed ebbe come figli Michele e Giambattista. Questi si dedicò alla carriera ecclesiastica e si stabilì a Malandriano, dove ebbero ed hanno beni. Michele ebbe due figli, Marcantonio e Pietro Alfonso. Pietro Alfonso venne eletto tenente delle Corazze ducali e, dall'inquisitore ecclesiastico padre Giacinto Maria Longhi, fu nominato Revisor capsarum telonii. Da Pietro Alfonso nacque Giuseppe, che sposò Colomba, figlia di Paolo Monti, il quale lo lasciò erede di un ingente patrimonio e del suo cognome. Giuseppe, rimasto vedovo in giovane età, abbracciò lo stato ecclesiastico ed ebbe una patente di famigliarità dal duca Antonio Farnese in data 26 aprile 1729. Con patente del cardinale Alessandro Albani del 24 agosto 1735, fu dichiarato suo gentiluomo d'onore, mentre con Breve di Clemente XII del 25 maggio 1735 venne nominato protonotario apostolico.
