Già in tempi remoti questa famiglia era nota in Alessandria e pare che già nel secolo XIII fosse ascritta al decurionato di questa città. Certo è che nel secolo XV la famiglia assunse una posizione preminente in specie per i titoli accademici e le cariche che tenevano molti dei suoi membri. Filippino, che era giureconsulto, fu pretore di Pavia (1463); suo figlio, Guglielmo, che parimenti fu giureconsulto, fu pretore di Tortona, ed ottenne la concessione di unire alle proprie l'arma di questa città. A Carlo Maria, figlio del giureconsulto Giovanni Stefano, che fu oratore di Alessandria a Milano, venne concesso il titolo comitale il 25 sett. 1732. Figlio di Carlo Maria fu Giovanni Stefano che sposò la contessa Teresa Mandrina, la quale venne infeudata di Lobbi il 25 gennaio 1734 e investita il 22 successivo febbraio col titolo comitale. Questo feudo passò al figlio Carlo Maria che ne fu investito
