Spanish family who lived in Sicily. It descends from James Filtz James, natural son of a James, duke of York, then king of England under the name of James II. By female succession to the De Silva and Alvarez De Toledo families, the titles of Count of Modica, Baron of Alcamo, Baron of Bompietro, Baron of Calatafimi, Baron of Chiaramonte, Baron of Monterosso, Baron of Ragusa La Vecchia, Baron of Ragusa La Nuova, baron of Scicli and baron of Vittoria, of which the last owner was Carlo Michele, duke of Berwick, in 1816. In Santiago, of Carlo Maria, of Jacobo, with DM 20 Dec. 1928 the title of count of Modica was recognized with masculine primogenial succession. The presence of the motto in the documented bibliography of the family confirms the ancestral nobility of the family. In fact, the origin of the motto dates back to around the 14th century
