Antica ed illustre famiglia, che si stabilì a Gubbio in epoca remota. Sono spesso ricordati in documenti municipali del XIV e XV secolo. Una tradizione eugubina pretende aver dati i natali ai genitori di S. Fabiano, XXI Pontefice eletto nel 240 ai tempi dell'Imperatore Decio, il fiero persecutore dei cristiani. Il suo sepolcro è in Santa Prassede in Roma. Tomaso Tabiani fu vescovo di Belcastro; Ippolito, dotto agostiniano, fu vescovo di Civitacastellana. Ottennero i Tabiani a titolo personale e per carica di ufficio, la dignità comitale. Altro ramo. Cinque omonime famiglie, fiorirono in Gubbio: ma verso il 1462 si separarono fra di loro, facendo ognuna di esse nobili parentadi. Angiolo Maurizio di Bernardo, oriundo di Castelnuovo nella Comunità di Subbiano, avvocato e impiegato nella Ruota Criminale di Firenze, fu ammesso alla nobiltà di Arezzo con Sovrano Rescritto 6 gennaio 1837.
