Originaria di Pilarciano in quel di Vicchio, questa famiglia venne assai presto a stabilirsi in Firenze, ove nel 1391 troviamo Stefano di Ser Piero squittinato per la maggiore al Priorato della Repubblica. Stefano ebbe due figli: Frosino e Fabbrino. Frosino è l'autore del ramo che visse alternativamente a Figline e a Firenze, ove acquistò ad uso di abitazione il palazzo dei Della Ripa al canto degli Aranci: ciò che spiega come questi Fabrini furon detti da Figline e anche dagli Aranci. Ad essi appartiene Giovanni di Bernardo (1516-1580) buon traduttore di Terenzio e di Cicerone, e professore di eloquenza a Venezia. I discendenti di Frosino furono ascritti alla nobiltà fiorentina per diploma di Francesco II dell'8 ottobre 1755, e promossi al patriziato con decreto 17 dicembre 1766.
