Assai nobile ed antica famiglia umbra originaria di Assisi propagata, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel 1404 ottenne tutte le sostanze della famiglia Scefi con il matrimonio dell'ultimo La famiglia Scefi, sempre originaria di Assisi ed insignita del titolo comitale, si estinse nella linea maschile nel 1404, e le sue sostanze furono devolute alla famiglia Taccoli in cui erasi maritata Faustina Scefi, ultimo rampollo della medesima. Comparisce primo di essi Andrea nel 1235; Ugolino, uno de' priori di Assisi, giurò con altri fedeltà a Francesco e Giacomo Piccinino nel 1444. Ultima di questa famiglia fu Pantasilea maritata nel 1514 al nobile Girolamo Ciofi di Assisi.
