La famiglia di Bologna è originaria dall'Irlanda, e si trasferì in Francia nel secolo XVI, ove occupò le più alte cariche nella magistratura e nell'esercito. Essa si componeva di più rami e particolarmente di due aventi per autore comune Artus Talon, n. verso il 1490. Il ramo primogenito deriva da Giovanni Talon, primogenito d'Artus, denominato ramo di Parigi; un altro ramo secondogenito, deriva da Pietro Talon quarto figlio d'Artus, detto ramo di Chalons. Tralasciando di parlare di altri rami, noi ci occuperemo in particolar modo di questi due, perchè i discendenti da essi si trasferirono nella seconda metà del secolo XIX in Italia e si stabilirono precisamente a Bologna. Da Giovanni, di Artus Talon, e da una Pidony, nacque nel 1538 Omer Talon, e morì il 6 febbraio 1618.
