E' comune opinione che Tampieri sia la cognominizzazione del nome latino Tampierius e che il suo capostipite sia un Tampierius Paulo, vissuto ne XIV secolo in Faenza. I nomi dei nobili Tampieri sono citati in testi storici ed atti notori fin dal XVII secolo. In un atto testamentario di Scipione Zanelli redatto nel XVIII secolo in Faenza leggiamo "... primo presidente prò tempore del venerabile ospitale del Santissimo Crocifisso degli orfani di Faenza che sarà perpetuo del sig cavalìer Sebastiano Tampieri del sig abate don Antonio Laghi parroco di Santa Croce del presente parroco di San Savino ....."; in "Libro primo della storia di Lugo ed annessi" del P.M.F. Girolamo Bonoli Min. Conv. leggiamo a pag. 461 che agli inizi del 1700 la nobile famiglia dè Tampieri aveva un abitazione nel territorio di Solarolo; in "Carte segrete e atti ufficiali della polizia Austriaca
