Of Norman origin, it took its name from the land of Tarsia of which she was a lady in Calabria, and enjoyed nobility in Monopoli, Conversano and Cosenza, and owned the fiefdoms of Belmonte, Bonifati, Busignano, Canina, Casalnuovo, Castiglione, Corigliano, Crucoli, Falconara, Fuscaldo, Latruca, Nucara, Riccaro, Santabarbara, Santangelo and Terranova, and the counties of Rossano, Sancineto and Tarsia.
