Di origine perugina, propagata in diverse regioni d'Italia ove venne detta anche Tarzi o de Tarzi, derivò da un Paoluccio di Ceccolo, che ne fu podestà in principio del XV secolo, Benedetto, suo figlio, fu consigliere dell'Imperatore Sigismondo e padre di Annibale, il quale dopo aver sostenuto in Urbino cariche eminenti presso Federico di Montefeltro, si stabilì in Gubbio, dove piantò la propria famiglia, cui appartennero Barzo Vescovo di Calvi nel 1484; Alessandro esimo letterato e consigliere del Duca Guidobaldo I; ed un altro Barzo che fu nove volte gonfaloniere in patria dal 1611 al 1652. Altro ramo. Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione, originaria di Milano. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Altro ramo. Antichissima e nobilissima. Estinta nel XVIII secolo, cui appartiene San Costanzo Vescovo e Martire Perugino.
