Antica Famiglia nobile ed illustre originaria di Modena ch'era ascritta al Consiglio nobile di Adria, nel cui distretto possiede dei beni. E' insignita del titolo di Conte ottenuto da suoi Maggiori dal Duca Ercole II di Ferrara col Feudo di Livizzano, e colla prerogativa di usare il Cognome Estense; e gode altresì del titolo di Marchese in forza del possesso del Marchesato feudale di Castelvecchio di cui fu rinnovativamente investita da Ercole III Duca di Modena nel 1794. Fu confermata nella nobiltà procedente dal Consiglio d'Adria con Sovrana Risoluzione 16 maggio 1824. Si ricorda: Lodovico Leopoldo Stefano del fu Giuseppe Giulio Cesare qu. Lodovico già Ministro della Repubblica italiana presso la Corte d'Etruria, e della nobil sig. Luigia Baschieri, nato il 3 settembre 1804.
