La famiglia detta negli antichi documenti Tassi, Tassis, Tarsis o del Cornello, ebbe origine dalla contrada del Cornello in Val Brembana, ed esercitò in questa Valle l'Ufficio di corriere; ma diramò ben presto in diversi villaggi, dando origine ai nomi di Tassi del Cornello, d'Almeno, della Piazza, di S. Pietro d'Orzio, di Camerata, del Bietto, d'Arco ed a quelli di Bordogna de Tassi, De Leidi, de Tassi del Cornello e dei Gazotti e Guarisco de Tassi. Essi scesero a Bergamo nella prima metà del secolo XIV. Infatti sono indicati come cittadini un Giovanni di Passio del Cornello, abitante a s. Pancrazio, e nel 1350 un Marchisio del fu Passio de Tassi del Cornello. Ricca di censo, si estese ben presto fuori di Bergamo introducendo ovunque le poste e prestando ai privati ed ai principi servigi di corriere.
