The exact period of settlement in North America has not been definately determined but Information extracted from Public and Civil registry archive's confirm that one of the first settlers was a certain 'James Taylor', born 1615, formerly of Carlisle, England, was the founder of this branch of the family in America, He emigrated in 1635 and settled in Tidewater County, Virginia, a district which later became known as Caroline County in 1727. he fathered a son known as James 2nd, born in 1673 who died on the 23rd of June 1729 having had a son, who in turn married Martha Thompson, daughter of Colonel William Thompson, of the Royal Army, and grandaughter of Sir Roger Thompson, of Yorkshire , England, they fathered nine children. ( from this branch sprang five Presidents of the United States, : James Madison, Zacharay Taylor, William Henry Harrison, Benjabin Harrison and John Tyler). 'Taylor' is the '10th' most common surname in North America.
