Antica e nobile famiglia originaria di Asti. Un Tazo fu, nel 1201, console del Comune di Asti; Palmesio intervenne come testimonio in una tregua che fecero i suoi concittadini con Carlo d'Angiò conte di Provenza, e nello stesso tempo erano consiglieri di Asti Falcone ed Oddone ambi de'Calzi. Di questa famiglia, o per adozione e per altra causa, fu un ramo della casa Solara detta de'Cazi; onde si legge che Ruffinetto Solaro, detto Caze d'Asti, fu nominato capitano del popolo di Chieri nel 1309. Rajero, capo dei Solari, parente del marchese Solaro signore di Stupinigi nel 1379 ed altri in altri tempi dal 1331 al 1430 tennero il castello di Tigliole. Marengo Tazo, con titolo di signore, si legge testimonio dell'acquisto che fecero di Mombercelli gli Astigiani nel 1289. Furono decurioni d'Asti Tommaso, Nicolò ed il suddetto Marengo, quando nel 1290 fu data la cittadinanza di quella città ai conti
