Discende, tal casato, dalla nobilissima famiglia vicentina dei Thiene, la quale deve la sua origine ad un Vincenzo, giunto in Italia, circa nell'anno 1080, da Atene. I discendenti del suddetto Vincenzo, si stabilirono in Vicenza e furono aggregati a quella nobile corporazione, dando in, ogni tempo, uomini illustri nelle lettere e nelle armi. Ebbe due Cardinali, il primo nel 1191 ed il secondo nel 1345; un Simeone fu Gran Cancelliere di Mastino della Scala, Signore di Vicenza e di Verona, che ad esso e ai suoi eredi concesse di inserire il Cane nel suo stemma; Giovanni fu consigliere di Carlo III, re di Napoli, ed in di lui assenza governò quello stato come Vice-Re, indi, passato a servire i Visconti, governò Milano, nel 1392, nella pupillare età di Francesco Maria; Clemente, Giacomo, Leonardo e Francesco, furono creati, nel 1469, dall'imperatore Federico III, Conti del Sacro Romano Impero, ed altresì concesse
