Ancient Calabrian family, feudal lord from the Swabian times, and who had among his most illustrious representatives the famous Cosentino philosopher Bernardino (n. 1508, deced. 1588). This was, as is well known, one of the most avid opponents of the Aristotelian system. He founded the Cosentina Academy in Naples. Antonio, adviser to Queen Giovanna. Tomaso, archbishop of Cosenza. Vincenzo, a philanthropist, founded an orphanage in the abolished Teresiani monastery. It was decorated with the titles of prince of Bonifati and marquis of S.Agata. The first-born branch of the Bonifati princes died out in 1698 in Giovan Giacomo, Giulia's father, married to Saverio Sambiase Sanseverino, duke of Malvito. It was received several times in the Order of Malta since 1588 and has long been aggregated to the patriciate of the city of Cosenza.
