Antiga família calabresa, senhor feudal da época da Suábia e que tinha entre seus representantes mais ilustres o famoso filósofo Cosentino Bernardino (n. 1508, dec. 1588). Este foi, como se sabe, um dos oponentes mais ávidos do sistema aristotélico. Ele fundou a Academia Cosentina em Nápoles. Antonio, conselheiro da rainha Giovanna. Tomaso, arcebispo de Cosenza. Vincenzo, filantropo, fundou um orfanato no abolido mosteiro de Teresiani. Foi decorado com os títulos de príncipe de Bonifati e marquês de S.Agata. O primeiro filho dos príncipes Bonifati morreu em 1698 em Giovan Giacomo, pai de Giulia, casado com Saverio Sambiase Sanseverino, duque de Malvito. Foi recebido várias vezes na Ordem de Malta desde 1588 e foi agregado ao patrocínio da cidade de Cosenza.
