Questa famiglia ebbe la sua culla in Cremona ove si appellava dei Centini si trasferì poi in Tenerano borgata di Val di Magro, in progresso di tempo si stabilì in Forano paesello presso Carrara. Il primo di questa famigila che prendeva il nome di Tenerani, forse in memoria del borgo detto di sopra, fu Giovanni Battista nel 1655. La gloria però di questa famiglia è dovuta al celebre scultore Pietro nato in Torano il 20 Novembre 1789. Fin da bambino questi mostrò incredibile tendenza per l'arte della scoltura che doveva poi farlo grande; ebbe i primi insegnamenti dallo zio materno Pietro Marchetti professore di scoltura nell'accademia di belle arti in Carrara, che in quell'epoca era fioritissima. Vinto il primo premio della scultura, venne in Roma l'11 aprile 1814 e l'anno appresso ebbe il gran premio istituito da Canova nell'accademia di S. Luca e sul finire del 1856 fu associato dal
