Nei secoli XII e XIII si hanno le prime notizie di questa famiglia in Milano e Monza. Essa diede i natali al celebre S. Gerardo di Monza. Si divise in due rami: il primo detto del Monte di Brianza e che si estinse nel 1789 con don Gaetano, protonotario apostolico, che lasciò erede del vistoso suo patrimonio la propria sorella Cecilia sposata in Casanova di Civate; il secondo, detto di Canzo, che aveva in detto luogo, e nella chiesa parrocchiale, l'antico sepolcro gentilizio. La famiglia nel Medioevo possedette il castello di Vergano. Don Pietro, con Decreto dell'I.R. Tribunale Araldico della Lombardia, del 4 febbraio 1777, ottenne il riconoscimento dell'antica nobiltà della famiglia e la delineazione dell'arma nel Codice Araldico, nobiltà che fu riconfermata nel 1816. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano coi titoli di nobile (mf.), trattamento di don e donna, in persona di Cesare, di Antonio, di Carlo.
