Questa famiglia, di origine fiorentina, si chiamò anticamente "Dello Scelto", ed ebbe per capostipite (1250 circa), che ebbe due figli: Guidetto, che fu de' priori di Firenze (15 dicembre 1291), e Tano, nato nel 1287. Dal primo di essi derivò il ramo, che si disse dei Dello Scelto-Guidetti sino al 1344, poi semplicemente Guidetti, di cui tre furono gonfalonieri e 30 priori di Firenze dal 1346 al 1522. Dal secondogenito, nacque Tingo, che ebbe per figlio uno Scelto, donde il ramo detto dei Dello Scelto-Thinghi, da cui provengono gli attuali T., e che dal 1353 al 1433 dette alla repubblica di Firenze 8 priori. Ad esso appartennero: Matteo che, insieme ad Odoardo de' Ricci, aveva nel 1381 ordito un trattato per tentare di far ritornare in Firenze alcuni de' Ciompi che s'erano rifugiati in Bologna.
