Très ancien et noble, de l'ordre des Capitaines, orné des titres de comte et de marquis. Umberto était archiprêtre de Monza, puis sous-diacre papal, et en 1195 archevêque de Milan. Il rapporte Calvi dans son ouvrage intitulé "Il Patriziato Milanese", imprimé à Milan, par Borroni en 1875. Il existe diverses opinions sur l'origine de cette famille. On en retrouve certains souvenirs vers le milieu du XIIIe siècle. Il jouissait de la noblesse dans de nombreuses villes lombardes. Ayant affaire à cette Famille très claire parmi les autres nobles des villes les plus célèbres, de notre Royaume, de sorte que, bien que ladite Famille ait disparu, elle vit toujours dans la mémoire de la postérité, d'autant plus qu'il a toujours montré le le plus grand désir pour elle, sans pourtant le faire, que par l'affection de l'antique amicitia, la vérité de l'histoire soit en quelque sorte cachée ou altérée.
