Famiglia messinese del secolo XVIII e trasferitasi nell'isola di Malta. Una leggenda vuole attribuire ad essa un origine romana e proveniente dalla stirpe dei Capodiferro. Coprì in Malta eminenti uffici ed ebbe molti possesso feudali e titoli nobiliari. Nell'isola vi sono memorie sin dal secolo XV. Fra Giambattista, del XVI secolo, fu ricevuto cappellano conventuale nella lingua d'Italia nel S. M. O. Gerosolimitano. La famiglia fu ascritta al patriziato di Messina il 30 dicembre 1553, al patriziato romano, 11 luglio 1590 e a quello di città di Castello il 19 settembre 1739 e fu inoltre riconfermata nel patriziato messinese il 17 settembre 1788 e il 28 agosto 1792. L'imperatore Ferdinando III, con diploma 6 novembre 1637, li creava, cavalieri del S. R. I.; il gran maestro dell'Ordine di Malta, Perellos, con Bolla 24 dicembre 1710, conferì loro il titolo di baroni di Gomerino e con prammatica 11 maggio 1725, il
