Famiglia assai antica ed illustre delle cui origini non si hanno notizie certe, si dice che questa famiglia discenda da Ottone, capitano di Porta Orientale, vivente nel sec. XII. In seguito alle lotte fra le varie fazioni dei Milanesi si sarebbe poi rifugiata a Cremia terra sul lago di Como, situata fra i due castelli di Rezzonico e di Musso. Pare molto riguardevoli i soggetti viventi di questa famiglia che con tanto decoro sostentano questo così antico e nobile cognome che ha avuto uomini di Consiglio, e altri soggetti illustri, ma l'antichità della presente famiglia accompagnata con la scarsezza delle scritture non lascia scorgere il principio della sua nobiltà; e perciò a ragione gli scrittori e ricercatori confessono con tutta la loro investigazione di non sapere accertare la sua origine; ma non vedendo noi addurre ragione alcuna per farci credere questa opinione, che tiene anche dubbia, potremo ancor noi proferire
