Esta antiga casa, que várias fontes bibliográficas afirmam ser de origem nobre, proporcionou uma série de personagens ilustres na carreira das armas. Muitas peças foram usadas para traçar a história desta família e necessariamente tivemos que restringi-las e encurtá-las muito. Encontramos esta nobreza no movimento do baronato de Mercœur em 1302. Foi registrado no Armorial de 1450 e mantido em 1666. Cânone de Saint-Agrève du Puy (1375); um cânone de Brioude (1604). Jacques, secretário do Duque de Montpensier, é autor de inúmeras obras publicadas de 1610 a 1638. A este nome é atribuído um sinal distintivo de nobreza representado pelo brasão que abaixo se reproduz e que também confirma através dos seus emblemas, de do ponto de vista histórico e heráldico, a garantia de um valor notável. É muito difícil, para não dizer impossível, juntar todas as hastes espalhadas desta casa.
