E' questa la famiglia illustrata da Costantino Nigra (n. villa Castelnuovo, 11 giugno 1828), di Lodovico, di Lorenzo. Costantino si arruolò a vent'anni nel corpo dei bersaglieri durante la campagna del 1848, rimanendo ferito il 21 luglio di quell'anno a Rivoli. Laureatosi in leggi, nell'anno susseguente entrò come impiegato nel ministero degli Affari Esteri. Quivi ebbe la ventura di conoscere il conte Camillo di Cavour, che accompagnò nel 1856 al Congresso di Parigi come segretario. Prese il grande ministro a benvolerlo e gli affidò i più difficili incarichi e le più delicate missioni e le più particolari negoziazioni. Nel 1856 fu nominato vice console, e percorse successivamente tutta la carriera diplomatica. Nel 1860 fu ministro residente a Parigi Inviato Straordinario e Ministro Plenipotenziario nel 1861, Ambasciatore a Pietroburgo nel 1876, a Londra nel 1882, a Vienna nel 1885, e RR. LL. PP. del 4 marzo 1886, gli concesse il titolo
