Si disse prima dei Tinacci, e poi Incontri dal nome di uno di questa casa. Ser Giovanni dè Tinacci dopo aver per cinque volte coperta la carica di notaro della Signoria, ottenne il priorato nel 1321. Dalle Iscrizioni delle antiche lapidi sepolcrali delle chiese di Monte San Giuliano, edito in Pisa, presso la direzione del Giornale Araldico, Rocca San Casciano del 1886, riporta di questa famiglia originaria di Toscana, ove ebbe dimora in Pisa. Famiglia assai antica e nobile. Annovera questa illustre casata personaggi di elevate virtù. Tra gl'antichi Cavalieri che anticamente nella militar disciplina fiorirono in Toscana.
