Antica famiglia modenese di cui si hanno notizie in parecchie carte del secolo XIV. Appare iscritta tra le famiglie conservatorie per la prima volta nel Catalogo del 1610, ma che un attestato di nobiltà ed antichità rilasciato ad un Ippolito dalla Comunità di Modena il 15 gennaio 1643 risulta che negli anni 1597, 1599, 1600, 1602, ecc., il dottore di leggi Alfonso fu priore del Consiglio dei Conservatori. Costui fu fattore generale ducale e pei suoi servigi creato poi conte. Con decreto ducale estense 27 agosto 1760 i fratelli Giuseppe, Felice e Giovanni, vennero creati nobili di tutti i dominii Estensi, con la successione di apporre alle proprie armi gentilizie la corona marchionale e l'epigrafe "Nobilitas totius dominii Estensis". Con riformagione della Comunità di Reggio del 27 agosto 1760, i membri della famiglia furono riconosciuti per patrizi di quella città. In virtù di decisione del Tribunale Araldico modenese 31
