Di origine francese, fu trapiantata nel Napoletano da un Gualtieri consigliere e capitano di Carlo I d'Angiò, il quale stabilì la sua famiglia in Aquila. Ha posseduto le baronie di Accettaro, Altamura, Alveto, Andria, Balbano, Campoli, Castelgrande, Castromaldo, Ceccano, Cerignola, Cerzano, Gualdo, Maldo, Pascarola, Picerno, Radia, Repone, Roccagloriosa, Rodi, Rojaro, Sandonato d'Abruzzo, Sanlorenzo di Strada, Sansevero, Santagiusta, Santamaria in Arco, Santandrea, Senarica, Soplezzano, Solito, Torremaggiore, Tortobuomo, Trivento, Viggiano, Vignola e Zinco; le contee di Lucera, Minervino, Potenza, Troja e Vico; il marchesato di Casabona ed il principato di Bari. Tra i personaggi degni di nota ricordiamo: Giovanni, notaio pubblico. Dal Re Carlo I d'Angiò fu impiegato negli affari pecuniari delle Province di Bari, Otranto e Capitanata. Dal Re Carlo II d'Angiò ebbe l'incarico di scacciare da Lucera i Saraceni ed introdurvi i Cristiani. Si vuole che in Lucera avesse trovati molti tesori, dei quali si impadronì e ne comprò feudi.
