Antica ed illustre famiglia toscana, la quale ha, per capostipite, Bartolomeo Todeschino, di Piccolomo, di Montone, che nel 1226 trattò col castellano di S. Miniato per conto del Comune di Siena, e, mentre era console di Mercanzia, riconsegnò alla Repubblica il castello di Orgia. Fu consigliere per il terzo di S. Martino nel 1230 e nel 1237 e provveditore di Biccherna nel 1234. Da suo fratello Rustichino, discendono i Piccolomini Carli e i Piccolomini Clementini. Guglielmo, di Bartolomeo, fu consigliere nel 1250. Fu, inoltre, ufficiale della Parte Guelfa e come tale presenziò nel 1267 alla pace fra il Comune di Siena e i guelfi. Guglielmo, di Guglielmo, si trova nel 1280 fra coloro che promisero di osservare la pace fra guelfi e ghibellini e nel 1290 e 1307 fu consigliere della Repubblica.
