Risulta dal manoscritto: Notizie di famiglie illustri di Cesena compilato dallo storico Andreani, che questa famiglia è oriunda da Cesena. Il primo nobile ed aggregato nel Consiglio fu Gaetano Antonio nel 1727. La famiglia era già stata aggregata alla nobiltà e posta nel consiglio. Il primo fu Giacomo e il secondo nobile il di lui figlio Giacinto e il terzo fu altro Giacomo Antonio. Il canonico Giovanni Battista, della cattedrale di Cesena, e del canonico di S. Rosa di Viterbo nel 1719, era fratello del detto Gaetano Antonio. Altro ramo. Da un Tomasello della celebre famiglia Cibo, che nel 970 si stabilì in Napoli, presero il nome i suoi discendenti che si dissero Tomacelli. Egli segnalossi nel 973 nella difesa di Napoli contro Pandolfo I detto Capo di ferro principe di Benevento e di Capua. Giovanni, suo figlio, fu connestabile della repubblica napoletana.
