Antica ed assai nobile famiglia patrizia emiliana da Forlì propagata, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Da remoto tempo non si hanno più notizie del ramo originario che viene considerato estinto, diversamente i rami propagati fioriscono con onore. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Famiglia illustre e storica allo stesso tempo, però come dice il Dolfi nella sua "Cronologia delle famiglie nobili di Bologna, con le loro insegne, e nel fine i cimieri", stampato in Bologna presso Giovan Battista Ferroni nel 1670, proveniente da Bologna. Qual fosse ne' passati secoli nelle Città dell'Emilia, la Famiglia è molto noto a ciascuno, ch'abbia de' fatti di quella nobil Città veruna contezza.
