Una tradizione vorrebbe che la famiglia di Montelupone abbia per suo capostipite quel messer Simone, I. V. D. e nobile di Fano che nel 1425 fu podestà di Montelupone, ma ancora non si è potuto stabilirne la discendenza. Certo si è che un ramo di questa famiglia aggregato nel sec. XVII alla nobiltà di Recanati, alzò lo stesso stemma di Fano "di azzurro a tre gigli d'oro 1, 2"; che fin dal secolo XV di Montelupone, vissero agiatamente e furono notai. L'agnazione documenta pertanto fa capo a un Francesco, vivente sulla fine del sec. XV, che potrebbe essere figli del detto messer Simone. Francesco ebbe tre figli : Ser Nicola, che fu notaio ed ebbe una sola figlia femmina sposata al nobile Cruciano Cruciani di Recanati; Antonio (dec. prima del 1562), che fu capo del ramo restato a Montelupone, che si spense nella seconda metà del sec. XVII; Stefano (deced.
