Esta familia era consorte de la de los Galeffi y, como lo fue, se origina en los antiguos señores de la fortaleza de Corvaia y el castillo de Vallecchia en Versiglia (Lunigiana), también llamado "Cattani della Versiglia della Corvia e Vallecchia", todos los cuales en 1224 habían hecho una alianza con el municipio de Pisa. El progenitor de este linaje feudal y gibelino fue un Gherardo, que vivió en el siglo XII, de cuyo hijo Guido nació Messer Ugolino Sanna (1238), padre de otro Guido, que tenía un Lando de Madonna Preziosa, llamado "Ciocia", (Pisa) en 1278), quien en 1314 provenía de Uguccione della Faggiuola, señor de Pisa y Lucca, reinstalado en las posesiones ancestrales de Corvia y Vallecchia. Esto engendró a Coscio, podestà de Scarlino en 1361, de donde provenía Balduccio, quien era el progenitor del Albioni de Pisa y el progenitor Nerdino del Galeffi de Pescia, ya que
