Questa famiglia, è originaria di Imola. Se ne ha traccia fino dal sec. XV ove esercitava il commercio delle spezie, col quale arrichì in tal modo, da figurare ben presto tra i più cospicui casati Imolesi. Nel sec. XVI troviamo un Giacomo, medico reputatissimo, che sposò Ippolita Codronchi, poi Francesca Ettori, famiglie della primaria nobiltà romagnola; un Nicola, sposato a Lucrezia Bertini, ed ancora un Giacomo, marito di Alessandra Codronchi. Da costoro ebbe origine un altro Nicola che sposò Geltrude Merighi Flaminj, che vantò letterati e scienziati preclari, quali Gian Antonio e suo figlio Marcantonio, il castissimo poeta latino, che fu in relazione con tutti gli umanisti della prima metà del sec. XVI; Sebastiano, medico, processato per eresia dal S. Uffizio di Roma; Onorio ed Erofilo che presero ad esercitare la medicina a Firenze. Per disposizione testamentaria di Ginevra Flaminj Merighi il cognome Flaminj fu aggiunto ai discendenti da Nicola,
