Family originating from Chambèry and settled in Livorno in the second half of the 16th century, Maria Luisa, queen of Etruria, with her Diploma 25 June 1806 granted Francesco the nobility for herself and descendants. They added the surnames Ottieri della Ciaja for the extinction of a branch of Ottieri grafted into the Ciaja. SM Vittorio Emanuele III, with Royal Decree of February 2 and Royal Letters Patents of May 26, 1904, granted the title of count with masculine primogenial succession. The title of Count belonged to this family, a title that was raised by the emperors to those who were by their side.
